Brendan Patton (Beverly, Ill./Holy Cross/Malcolm X/St. Rita) turned in a two-round score of 155 (77,78) Saturday afternoon for the Saint Xavier University men's golf team at the Battle at Blackthorn hosted by Bethel University (Ind.) at Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. Patton finished with his second-best two-day score, after shooting 154 (76,78) to start the season at the Highland Championship on September 1 and 2. As a team, the Cougars placed 10
th out of 13 teams with a team score of 650 (322,328). The host Pilots took first place, shooting a two-day total of 575 (295,280), four strokes ahead of the runner-up. Cam Jones from Grace College (Ind.) had the lowest individual score, carding a 139 (70,69) and won by three shots.
- Freshman Dan Stood (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) wrapped up his 36-hole performance two shots behind his teammate at 157 (78, 79). It was the lowest two-day score of his young career.
- Junior Clayton Bumsted (Palos Heights, Ill./Stagg) shot the lowest round of his collegiate career in round one, shooting a 76. He finished the tournament with a round of 92 on Saturday for a two-day score of 168.
- Freshman Joey Glennon (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) finished day one with a score of 91, however he bounded back to shoot a 79 on day two, tying for his lowest score this season, for a total of 170.
- Freshman Ayden Dyson (Meridian, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) withdrew on Friday, but was able to compete on Saturday and finished the loop with a score of 87.
Saint Xavier competes in the two-day Saints Classic at Warren Golf Course, hosted by Holy Cross College (Ind.), on Monday, October 9 in Notre Dame, Ind.
