Andres Velez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/St. Francis) repeated as CCAC Defensive Player of the Week, and junior setter
Cameron Daniels (Omaha, Neb./Millard West) earned CCAC Setter of the Week for the third straight week for the Cougars. The trio held SXU defeat a pair of NAIA Top 15 opponents on consecutive days as they topped No. 11 Grand View University (Iowa) in three sets Friday evening at the Shannon Center, followed by a three-set triumph over No. 15 William Penn University (Iowa) Saturday afternoon on Bob Hallberg Court.
- Cox tallied 23 kills on a .333 attack percentage (23-6-51) with eight digs, six blocks and two service aces. He had a team-high 14 kills on a .370 attack percentage (14-4-27), four digs and a block in the win over Grand View. Cox added nine kills, five blocks and two aces to help best William Penn.
- Velez collected 21 digs, had a 100.0 percent reception percentage on 23 attempts, and four assists. He dug up a match-leading 12 digs with three assists against GVU, along with nine digs and an assist vs. WPU.
- Daniels handed out 70 assists for an average of 11.67 assists per set in six sets, along with 12 digs, two blocks, two kills and a service ace. He posted 39 assists, six digs and an ace in the victory over the Vikings, followed by a 31-assist effort with six digs, two blocks and two kills in the win over the Statesmen.
No. 2 Saint Xavier (5-2/0-0 CCAC) plays NCAA Division II Roosevelt University (Ill.) at the Shannon Center on Tuesday, February 10. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
